1957 Ford 600 Tractor: A 3-Year Labor of Love

Some tractors travel through generations. As an example. Brian Rich’s grandpa owned a 1957 Ford 600. As time went on, the tractor eventually passed to Brian’s father, and then it finally became Rich’s tractor. That’s the thing about tractors, they are more than machines. They really become part of the family.

It begs the question. Why do tractors become such endearing parts of our lives? Maybe it’s because so many people recall riding a tractor through the fields with a loved one. Perhaps it’s because farmers so depend on tractors to get essential work done. Maybe it’s because tractors are such handsome machines.

When Brian became the owner of the family tractor, he decided to restore it to its original glory, so he started a rebuild project that became a 3-year effort. The project brought back memories to Brian of his pawpaw. In the spirit of instilling the love of tractors in the next generation, Brian’s 2-year-old granddaughter was present much of the time.

Of course, tractor enthusiasts are kind of an extended family themselves, so Brian went down to the local tractor club to get some tips and techniques. They were a wealth of knowledge.

With the tractor project now complete, Brian calls it a “labor of love.” He said the experience was worth “every minute and every dollar.” Best of all, maybe he has extended the family’s love of tractors to live on through his granddaughter. That would be the best accomplishment of all.
