A Tractor that's Perfect in Pink!

When people ask Scotty Satterwhite why one of his family’s tractors is pink, it gives him the chance to tell a heartwarming tale. The story behind this tractor also brings smiles and hope to others who have faced serious health issues.

Scotty’s wife Jessica had a 1948 Farmall Super A in the family that was originally owned by her great grandfather who had spent countless hours on it cultivating tobacco fields. The great grandfather died in 2012, and the tractor then sat outside for a number of years after that until Jessica’s great grandmother suggested she take the tractor. When Scotty and Jessica arrived to pick it up, they found moving the tractor wasn’t going to be so easy. The engine was locked up and the transmission was full of water. The restoration project started with a complete engine and transmission rebuild.

After the mechanical work was complete, it was time to choose a color for repainting the tractor. When asked, Jessica said, “I guess red like the others we have.” Scotty had another idea. He suggested pink to honor Jessica’s great grandmother who had beaten breast cancer years earlier. Jessica’s response was “Get the paint” and pink became the tractor’s new color.

The pink tractor is a conversation starter at shows, and Scotty and Jessica love telling the story behind the pink tractor. But more importantly, the tractor has become a symbol of inspiration and hope for others who currently are battling breast cancer or have battled it in the past. “This little tractor can bring light to people’s lives and let them know that there is hope,” said Scotty, who calls it “Showing for a cure.”
